Behind Plexida

Founded in 2012 by Alexandra Kouziaki, a third-generation knitter, Plexida creates handcrafted knitwear in Greece, combining traditional techniques with timeless, minimal design to make pieces that are meant to last.

The craft of knitting was passed down from woman to woman in Alexandra’s family. From her great-grandmother, a silk-worm farmer, to her mother, a professional knitter, the rich history of the family craft guided her to a creative outlet-turned-business.

The name comes from the Greek word πλεξίδα — pronounced plek-SEE-tha — meaning braid, and from the verb πλέκω (pleko): to knit, weave or intertwine.

A name rooted in the craft itself, but also in the idea of threads, hands and generations coming together.

Made slowly, in Greece

We believe in slowness. In things that last. In work that feels human. In making less, but making it well.

Our knits are made entirely by hand in Greece, using traditional techniques and a process that can’t be rushed. One artisan works on each piece from beginning to end, giving it the time and attention that handwork asks for.

There are no knitting machines or production lines behind our pieces. There are skilled hands, years of experience and many hours of work.

Today, Plexida is still woman-led and made by an all-women team. We work closely with local knitters, keeping a traditional craft alive while giving it a place in the present.

We make each piece with the hope that it will stay with you for years. Worn often, looked after and made part of everyday life.
